May 2025 Webinar
Examining the effects of biofield therapy through simultaneous assessment of electrophysiological and cellular outcomes.
Our guest, Arnaud Delorme, PhD, will discuss his study looking at whether a biofield therapy (BT) practitioner could affect sick cells without touching them. The practitioner did 60 sessions, some where they actively gave treatment and some where they didn’t. The cells were placed about a foot away, and the researchers measured cell activity and changes in the practitioner’s brainwaves (EEG) and heart rate.
They found that the practitioner’s brain and heart activity changed significantly during treatment sessions, especially when working with live cells. However, the actual effect on the sick cells was small. One marker (calcium uptake) increased less in BT-treated cells compared to sham-treated ones. A more advanced analysis suggested a two-way link between the practitioner’s brain activity and cell behavior.
Overall, the study hints at a possible connection between the practitioner’s physiological state and the cells.

About Our Guest Speaker

Arnaud Delorme, PhD
Arnaud Delorme, PhD, has been studying human consciousness for the last 20 years. He is a neuroscientist at IONS, a CNRS Research Director in Toulouse, France, and a senior Research Scientist at the University of California, San Diego. In 2000, Dr. Delorme completed his PhD thesis on visual categorization in humans, monkeys, and machines. Dr. Delorme then moved to the Salk Institute for a postdoc in Terry Sejnowski and Francis Crick’s laboratory where he focused on statistical analysis of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals recorded during various cognitive tasks. He developed the free EEGLAB software for advanced analysis of EEG signals in collaboration with Scott Makeig, software which is now amongst the most used in EEG research worldwide. He was awarded a Brettencourt-Schueller young investigator award and a 10-year anniversary ANT young investigator award for his contributions to the field of EEG research.
